Selectmen Minutes – May 4, 2021

Posted on May 4, 2021June 21, 2021 By Webmaster

Present:  Fred Woodhouse, Diane Callahan, Gary Backstrom

Call to order by Fred Woodhouse at 5:30 pm.

Motion to approve the minutes for 4/20/2021 (Woodhouse/Backstrom).  All in favor, motion carried.

Discussion about Comcast franchise agreement renewal, the Town Administrator will try to obtain a copy of the original agreement.

Discussion about the mask requirement for the Sharon town buildings.  Motion that masks are no longer mandatory, but will be optional in the Sharon Meeting House (Backstrom/Woodhouse).  Woodhouse and Backstrom in favor, Callahan opposed.

Email from Comcast regarding a franchise agreement for two Sharon residences.  Discussion of this will be held until the next meeting so that more information may be obtained.

Signed intents to cut for Morison, M 1 L 4; NEFF, M 1 L13A.

Guy Benjamin, 86 Temple Road, spoke to the Board about renovating his kitchen and adding a small entry-way porch.  The house, which is older, is 46 ½’ from the road, the entry-way porch would be inset and 50′ away from the road.  The Board determined that because this is an existing structure, and the entry-way porch will not further encroach into the set-back requirement Mr. Benjamin does not need to go to the ZBA.  The Board asked Mr. Benjamin about the recently erected greenhouse.  Mr. Benjamin stated that the greenhouse is a temporary structure, as it is not permanently attached to the ground, and is at least 100′ from the road.  Mr. Benjamin submitted an intent to construct, plans, and check #1003 in the amount of $75.00 for fees.

Tricia Traffie, 690 Rte 123, spoke to the Board about their plans to put up a temporary quonset hut.  Ms. Traffie explained that they have had a survey done by Fieldstone Land Consultants and the placement of the quonset hut is not in the setback and is more than 100′ from the road.  After discussion it was determined that that Ms. Traffie does not need a building permit, due to the fact that temporary structures are not explicitly addressed in the zoning.

Ken Callahan:

  • Mentioned that there should be an index for the zoning ordinance, Mr. Backstrom looked at the zoning and found there is an index.
  • Batteries for the security system have been replaced.

Ms. Callahan:

  • Spoke about an email that had been sent regarding people sleeping in their vehicle on Swamp Road.  Ms. Callahan spoke to the people and contacted Pam Everson, Sharon Welfare Officer,  The people were gone the following day.

Mr. Woodhouse:

  • There have been more requests for broadband information, he has been responding to the emails.
  • Spoke about an email from Chet Bowles regarding the doors to the Meeting House not being locked.   Ken Callahan will put a sign on how to lock the door.
  • Spoke about the Conval recount and questioned how six ballots not filled in can become six “yes” ballots.  There was discussion about “intent”, the Board was not sure what this phrase means.

Meeting adjourned at 6:36 PM.

Minutes taken by Debra Harling.  Approved on 05/18/2021.
