The Conservation Fund was enacted in 1994, at Town Meeting. It allocates 100% of the use change tax penalty (assessed when property is taken out of current use), up to $5,000 per year, to the Fund. The Fund
can: acquire land, contribute toward acquiring land, cover costs associated with acquisition (title searches, surveys, deed registrations), pay for legal costs for donated land, etc.
The following disbursements have been made from the Fund:
- $ 1,000 toward protection of the Sharon Bog by the Society for the Protection of NH Forests
- $ 500 toward acquisition of Holt Peak (on Temple Mountain) by the New England Forestry Foundation
- $ 1,000 toward the protection of the Cabot Skyline/Wapack Trail (on Temple Mountain) by the New England Forestry Foundation
- $2,100 toward protection (via easement to the Monadnock Conservancy) of 98 acres on Spring Hill Road.
As of December 31, 2001, the approximate balance in the Conservation Fund is $7,000.
